Vodafone Mobile Broadband

The devices and apps in the Vodafone Mobile Broadband range support a wide range of computers and tablets. You can choose between Vodafone Mobile Broadband USB Sticks, which are ideal for single notebook or desktop computers, or Vodafone Mobile Wi-Fi Routers, which are great for connecting one or more devices – like smartphones and tablets, as well as desktop, notebook or hybrid computers – with the internet via Wi-Fi.

Your Vodafone Router or USB Stick will normally come with the correct app for your device. However, if you are looking for the right app or want to check if there is an update for your current app, see the following sections:

Mobile Broadband USB Sticks – if you have a Vodafone Mobile Broadband USB Stick that you plug into a USB socket on your computer

Mobile Wi-Fi Routers – if you have a Vodafone Mobile Wi-Fi Router that you connect to via Wi-Fi, which in turn connects your computer, tablet or phone to the internet via the Vodafone mobile network.

Vodafone Mobile Broadband USB Sticks

Our USB Sticks support computers running the latest operating systems from both Microsoft and Apple. When you plug in your Stick for the first time, it will normally be set up for you by the system on your computer, or you will be asked to run a short install program to set it up. During setup, the Vodafone app for your computer will be installed.

As well as getting your computer online via the mobile network, our Vodafone apps allow you to manage your Vodafone account and send and receive SMS text messages straight from your desktop. In addition, on Microsoft Windows 7 or Windows 10, IT managers can make use of further mobile broadband functionality for corporate networks by downloading our additional Windows app.

See the following sections for details of the Vodafone apps for your computer’s operating system, plus the questions we have most often received about them, listed in the FAQs (‘Frequently Asked Questions’).

Vodafone Mobile Wi-Fi Routers

Our Mobile Wi-Fi Routers allow you to connect a number of devices to the internet via Wi-Fi at the same time, including phones, tablets and computers. When you first switch on your Router, it will connect to the high-speed Vodafone mobile broadband data network and then create a local Wi-Fi network for you.

Once you have connected your device, eg. your notebook computer, to your Mobile Wi-Fi network, you can surf the web, send and receive email, and use instant messaging, chat or any other apps that require an internet connection.

To check the status of your mobile broadband and Wi-Fi networks, manage SMS text messages or change the settings of your Mobile Wi-Fi, open http://VodafoneMobile.wifi in your web browser.

VPN Integration Guides

The Vodafone Mobile Broadband app for Windows 7 and 10 includes the ability to integrate a range of Virtual Private Network (‘VPN’) software with the app’s connection management. Once set up, opening and closing mobile or Wi-Fi internet connections with the Vodafone Mobile Broadband app will automatically connect or disconnect the user’s VPN. This integration makes connecting to a corporate network when working remotely a simple, one-step process for business users who have to use a VPN.

VPN integration takes full advantage of the Vodafone Mobile Broadband app’s automatic connection management capabilities, so that the VPN can be set up to only connect when a business user is outside their corporate network. When the user returns to their corporate network, their VPN will be closed. If the user connects within coverage of their corporate network, eg. over Wi-Fi, their VPN will not be opened.

Once set up, a VPN connection will be moved as seamlessly as possible from mobile to Wi-Fi to LAN (Local Area Network) depending on network availability. Also, should a connection be interrupted for any reason, the Vodafone Mobile Broadband app will attempt to re-connect the VPN as soon as possible once connectivity returns.
